Up And Coming Colorado Dubstep Producers

Recently, Press Play has been hitting the bars, clubs, and major venues in the Denver/Boulder Area.  We have found some great new producers who are creating tracks that fill the voids for the next up and coming artists.  The key to becoming a successful producer is to have a unique sound that no one else has truly achieved.  Here is our list of the best up and comers in the 303.

Project Aspect
Jay Jaramillo aka Project Aspect has played two shows in front of Press Play loyals in the last 6 months.  He opened for PANTyRAID at the Boulder Theatre last fall then played a packed Goose Bar show this February.
He is an avid producer who has a very glitchy sound to his originals/remixes.  His track record of shows is building quickly and Jay has 5 shows in the next month.  Jay is also a co-founder of Mile High Sound Movement, a DJ crew based in Denver.  Here are some of Jay's most recent tracks, give them a listen.

RODWAY
Pete Rodway is a student at CU Denver and is blowing up the Colorado production scene.  He was picked up by Boulder Beats after they had a talent search to fill some nights at Half Fast Subs and he did not let down.  He absolutely destroyed the place with his progressive;y tasteful dub tracks.  His most recent track, DANCE!!!, is very Skrillex-esque.
This is a dubstep producer who you have not heard the last of.  With his producing skill set, he will be filling clubs and venues quite a bit in the coming months.  Here is his SoundCloud ready to go.  Wobble Wobble Wobble.  (Dance is hands down his most powerful track)

There really isn't much information that I can regurgitate here about Kyle Hoffman.  I was sent his remix of Babylon by NiT GriT which is in the top 10 on NiT GriT's Re-Grit contest.  I thought it was appropriate to add Kyle as he is in the Re-Grit Competition and we love NiT GriT at Press Play.
This remix has been doing really well in the competition and we hope that he gets voted higher on the list.  When someone as knowledgable and cultured as Danny puts you in the top ten out of thousands of entries, you've created something great.  Here is Kyle's SoundCloud player.  Enjoy

SERATO/ABLETON "THE BRIDGE"

DJ, Producer, Or Not, The Serato/Ableton names are known by most. Being the top creators of computer-based music production and DJ software, these two companies rarely share the stage. Most DJs prefer one or the other for live playing, although exceptions exist. This is quite possibly the sickest thing that Serato and Ableton has ever done. The Bridge Connects Serato Scratch Live and Ableton Live Together to make a DJ/Producer "Dream Program."

Here is a Promo Video

and here is a demonstration of what the program is capable of

and another

So if you own Ableton Live and use Serato Scratch, I would update pronto and start making audible chocolate.

Here is the "What is The Bridge" From the Serato Website

Ableton and Serato bridge the gap between music production and DJing with The Bridge.

The Bridge requires Serato Scratch Live 2.1.1 and Ableton Live/Suite 8.2 or above. Open both programs at the same time with Rane hardware attached to activate The Bridge online.

Registered owners can get the latest updates here: Ableton Live 8 | Serato Scratch Live

New to Ableton Live? Until January 15, 2011, save up to US $150 on purchases of Ableton Live. Find out more on Ableton.com.

Hollidayrain's Mile-High Uplifter #2: Cold Blue

Hollidayrain here again with another awesome uplifter. This time, it's a perfect track for winter time from German Cold Blue. After a long night of homework the other week, I was walking home from campus and started listening to this track. Small snowflakes started drifting down on the empty streets, and the only thing disturbing the peace was an occasional passing car. And boy did the smooth uplifting melodies of this track and the deep bass suit this scene perfectly! When I got home, it was exactly midnight, and when I checked the temperature, it was exactly 30 degrees. Doesn't get more perfect than that, does it?

Hollidayrain's Mile-High Uplifter #1: Mat Zo

Hollidayrain here with the first of hopefully many posts on the Press Play blog. I'm going to be focusing almost exclusively on progressive/melody-driven electronic music in hope that I can do my part in making it an even bigger part of the Boulder electronic music scene.

A common misconception that I've noticed people have about progressive tracks is that they don't have huge drops or bangin' basslines that will make you completely lose control. WRONGGGGGG! To show you what I mean, here's an Anjunabeast....errr....Anjunabeats release from earlier in 2010 from an absolutely brilliant British prodigy named Matan Zohar, aka Mat Zo. This dude was born in 1990, and he's been cranking out amazing tracks and remixes professionally since the release of his Tiesto - Driving to Heaven (Mat Zo Remix) in 2006.

In the following track, he remixes a piano-driven track by Reeves (aka Andy DuGuid) called Call of Loneliness. Take a listen to this monster:

Keep a look out for this guy! He's already one of the youngest members of the DJ mag top 100 (#66), and has hinted at an artist album in the near future.
